Junior Section
Donyngs has a growing Junior Section (of 8 - 18 year olds) where youngsters can learn the basics of how to bowl and then improve their skills and play in games. They meet every Saturday morning from 9.00 - 10.30am. The cost is £1.50 per session for non-members and £1.00 for members. The sessions are taken by qualified coaches, all of whom have received CRB clearance.
For Juniors who want to further develop their bowling skills, we provide the opportunity for them to play friendly matches against other clubs, and also to represent Donyngs in matches against other clubs in the Surrey Under 18 League. The other clubs who play in the League are Sutton, Wey Valley, Camberley and Egham. In addition, the best players are invited to represent Surrey in the Under 25s against other counties.
Junior Singles and Generation Pairs
We have club competitions ~ Junior Singles and Generation Pairs (where an under 18 bowler plays with a parent or grandparent, or another adult). The finals of these competitions takes place on Club Finals Days.
When Juniors have reached a reasonable standard, they are positively encouraged to play alongside adults in the Club’s internal league programme and in matches. The club subsidises the green fees in matches, so juniors only pay the cost of the meal.
Every year 32 Under 18 youngsters in the county, which usually includes 4 or 5 Donyngs players, are invited to take part in a County Singles Event where they play a series of singles matches during one day. The 6 - 8 go forward to the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme skills day against the best players from the other southern counties. The best of them then go forward to the National School of Excellence.
£10.00 for the whole season
As you can see from all the above activities, there are plenty of opportunities for any junior at Donyngs to reach their potential and to be equipped to play the game at the highest level. For all this, membership costs only £10.00 for the whole season.
Donyngs Indoor Bowls Club has a Child Protection Officer.
